Frequently Asked Questions
We are open:
Sunday-Friday: Noon-8pm
Saturday: 10am-10pm
Early closing or late openings in case of inclement weather may occur! We'll try to post notice as much in advance as we can on our answering machine and on Facebook.
Membership at our "EXTRA" level is free. You can only rent 2 titles at a time, but no credit card is required on file.
Membership at our "CAMEO" level is also free. This level permits rental of up to 10 titles at a time. You must have a valid major credit card on file.
There are paid memberships at various levels which help support our no profit work and get you free rentals and other great perks - see our Membership page for details.
You just need a few items (see next entry). You don't need a membership if you just want to buy something.
You must come into the store and sign up. Membership is available to anyone 18 or older with a valid North Carolina driver's license/ID and proof of a permanent local address (utility bill, paystub, etc.). Some membership levels require a major credit card to be on file. This is the card we'll use if you call us to renew over the phone, or to pay fees when movies are more than 15 days late. We do not accept prepaid cards as the card on your account, but you can use them when you come in to rent or buy. Exceptions to these requirements may be approved by a store manager on an individual basis and a limit of 3 items at any one time may apply.
Members may designate roommates or family members living in the same dwelling to use their membership account, but members must agree to be responsible for any charges incurred by such authorized person and to ensure that VisArt Video's rules and regulations are observed. You must put the names of authorized individuals on your account in advance; they can't simply show up with your card.
You can either show us your membership card, or tell us your name or phone number and show a valid picture ID. If someone is authorized to rent on your account, he or she will need to give us your name (the name your account is under) and have his/her picture ID ready. If you haven't rented in awhile, please be ready to update your credit card number, address and phone number. You do not need a rental membership to buy merchandise.
Rental rates:
Initial Rental Late Fee
New additions are $4.50 for 3 days and the late fee is $2 per night.
Back catalogs are $3.50 for 5 days and the late fee is $1 per night.
All VHS and specially marked DVDs are $1.50 for 5 days and the late fee is $1 per night.
Renewals are the same cost as the original rental rate. If you find you can't get your rental back on time for some reason, if you like you can call the store and renew over the phone so you won't have to pay the higher late fees and so you won't get a call asking when you're going to return the item!
Rentals are due back by the time the store opens the morning after the due date. You can put them in the drop slot under the counter, or place them in the drop box outside on the sidewalk after store closing. If a movie is dropped off after closing, it will be checked in as if it was returned the previous day, right up to when the store opens up again.
When you rent any of these items from us, you are responsible for their timely return in undamaged condition. Please work with us on this. We are not out to get you with "Late Fees" and other charges; we simply want to protect our inventory and to keep it available for others to use.
If you lose or damage a movie, please notify us right away. That way we can replace the missing item in our inventory and you will only be responsible for the replacement cost. If on the other hand, we are not notified of a loss within a reasonable amount of time, you may be charged for additional rental time (because of lost revenue to us), any recovery costs on our part, and the replacement cost of the item itself.
Additionally, any remaining unpaid balances on your account will be charged to your credit card after 15 days.
We're sorry about that! If you experience a problem, please don't try to clean the disk yourself! Please note the chapter or around where in the movie/TV show the problem occurred - for example, "It froze right before the Cliffs of Insanity". When you return it, bring it up to the counter and let us know what's up. We'll try cleaning it and seeing if we can resolve the problem. If you're on the go and/or need to return it in our after-hours drop, please tuck in a note explaining the problem so a damaged disk doesn't go out to other customers. Any information we can get as to what happened and where it happened is helpful and much appreciated.
If you often have disks freeze, you may want to try cleaning your DVD or BLU-RAY player. You can get an inexpensive but effective special disk that cleans the laser lens of the player, which may solve a lot of problems for you.
We have "Sale Racks" where we sell off inventory we no longer need, at low prices. We don't generally buy movies, however. If you're trying to thin out your collection, we do sometimes accept donations of VHS, DVD and Blu-ray titles, which we may add to our catalog or sell, depending on if we already have the title.
Donation at our CAST MEMBER level ($25-$49.99) you will get every 10th rental free for all future rentals.
